What to do when someone dies

A calm step-by-step for the first hours and days. Specific to Gardens of Peace.

  1. 01

Notify the GP or out-of-hours doctor

A doctor needs to verify the death and issue the medical certificate of cause of death (MCCD). If the death is unexpected, call 999. If under hospice care or expected, call the GP or NHS 111.

  2. 02

Register the death with the local registrar

Register within 5 days in England and Wales, 8 in Scotland. You'll need the MCCD, plus the deceased's full name, date of birth, address, and NHS number if available.

  3. 03

Receive the Green Form (Form 101) or Coroner's Certificate

The registrar gives you a Certificate for Burial (the Green Form). This authorises us to receive the body for burial. Without it, we cannot proceed.

  4. 04

    Contact a funeral director (optional)

Some families prefer to handle ghusl and shrouding privately at the mosque; others use a Muslim funeral director. We can recommend trusted local directors on request.

  5. 05

Notify the cemetery and book the burial

Use the booking form on this site, or call us directly. Burials run during posted hours; same-day bookings need the Green Form delivered before our cutoff.

  6. 06

Arrive at the cemetery on the burial day

Bring the Green Form or its digital equivalent, plus your booking reference. Staff will guide you from the gate to the plot. Janazah prayer can be offered on-site if arranged in advance.
